Ol Sirai House
A five-room house on a conservancy escarpment, run as a private home with guiding attached.
Built into the rock on the edge of an escarpment, with the plateau falling away to the north and Mount Kenya behind you when the cloud lifts. Five rooms, open to the air on one side, with the kind of guiding that made Laikipia's reputation.
It is a house rather than a lodge: you eat together, the guides eat with you, and the day is shaped around what the trackers found that morning.
What we like
- Walking straight out of the house at first light without a vehicle
- The rock pool, which is at the right temperature for about an hour a day
- The Samburu trackers, who are the best we work with anywhere
Worth knowing. Rooms are open on one side. There is netting and there are staff, but this is not a sealed building, and that is the point.
