The shape of it
Two conservancies, three nights each minimum, with walking safaris and night drives that the national parks do not permit.
James guided in Laikipia for eleven years before he started planning it, and the shape of this journey comes from that: walking rather than driving at the centre, three nights minimum per camp, and the middle of the day off.
You stay on two conservancies with very different characters — a house built into an escarpment, and a light camp of six tents that moves twice a year — and you spend an afternoon with the people who run the security and monitoring, which is the clearest explanation you will get of what your bed night pays for.
There is no fourth camp and no Masai Mara extension. James will book one if you insist, and will tell you first why he thinks the week is better without it.

Met at Jomo Kenyatta and taken to a garden hotel in the suburbs. A night here rather than a same-day connection, because the light aircraft north goes in the morning and arriving twice in one day is nobody's idea of a holiday.
